Cat and Small Animal Nail Trims

Nail trims are an important part of your pet’s care, but they aren’t always easy to do at home. Our clinics offer help for cats, rabbits, and guinea pigs. We pay attention to your pet’s body language, take our time, and pause when they need a break.

Frequently asked questions

All appointments take place at the Guelph Humane Society, 190 Hanlon Creek Blvd., Guelph.

We watch for signs of fear or stress and will pause or stop rather than force a trim. If your pet isn’t comfortable having their nails done, we can use the appointment to talk through ways to help them practise nail care at home.

Scratching is a normal cat behaviour. We encourage play and suitable places to scratch, such as scratching posts. If your indoor cat is still scratching furniture or other items, SoftPaws may be an option.

SoftPaws are nail caps applied to a cat’s claws. They typically last four to six weeks, and an application includes a nail trim. We recommend them only for cats who live entirely indoors.

We don’t want cost to prevent you from accessing a cat, rabbit, or guinea pig nail trim. Email programs@guelphhumane.ca to ask about assistance.
